Software and Electronics Laboratories (Pty) Ltd, the research laboratories associated with the well known SECURICOR electronic security company, is exhibiting their revolutionary VIDEX line of products at the Essen Security show in Germany later this year. VIDEX. VIDEX is a full colour digital video management system which replaces a multitude of products used in Video, Surveillance, Monitoring, QC and Security Installations. Version 3.0 was launched Internationally at the IFSEC93 security exhibition in Birmingham, UK in 1993 as the first full colour version. Two years before anybody else could market anything similar. By then the black and white versions had been operational at a number of sites in South Africa.

The current Videx version is already version 7 with many additional features (e.g. Parking Guard) and development is continuing. since VERSION 7 is so advanced and trouble free no new version has been launched since 1994 (at the previous Essen exhibition) even though new versions had been developed as part of the continuing development program of Software and Electronics Laboratories (Pty) Ltd. Videx 10, which will incorporate three generations of technology enhancement, is expected to be launched in 1997.

The new features on to be shown at ESSEN this year will consist mostly of the powerful peripherals now available as hardware extensions to VIDEX. They are all intelligent, distributed processing units which can be placed up to kilometres from the On-Site-Controller with twisted pair (or when combined with video only the co-ax cable) connection:

Eight way Multiplexer/Switcher - an intelligent multiplexor/matrix (up to 16 connectable).
Controller-Outstation - an intelligent outstation of which 256 can be connected to perform the following functions: 

multiplex cameras individually onto the system
control and connect other peripherals to the system. Typical examples: 
Card Readers,
Stress Monitors,
Video motion detectors,
Video Quality Control Analysers,
Temperature, level and other measurements,
Gate controls 
Mimic Controller 
Electrified Fence Electrifier, Controller and alarm detector
The VIDEX will be shown to incorporate in a single unit thirteen essential video functions with specifications which in each case matches or exceeds that of individual products performing only this single function:

2 VIDEX is a 64-way multi-function Time Lapse Recorder
3. VIDEX is a 64-way multi-function Event Recorder
4. VIDEX is a multiplexor
5. VIDEX is a specialised Alarm Control Panel
6. VIDEX is a Remote Video Transmission System - A remotely situated Remote Terminal/Monitor (RTM) can receive pictures of alarms etc.
7. VIDEX is a Remote Control System
8. VIDEX is a Pictorial File Manager
9. VIDEX allows Pictures to be Enhanced, Zoomed, Printed or Incorporated into reports.
10.VIDEX incorporates an optional Video Motion Detection System
11.VIDEX incorporates an optional Video Analysis System for product line quality control and other form recognition and comparison requirements
12.VIDEX integrates with an optional Video Access Control System
13. VIDEX is easy to use. Touch screen allows immediate access to all functions with easy operator training by limiting operator access to the essentials only.
